Research / Publications
Education:
PhD 1982, University of Washington
Research Interests:
My research interests are shortwave radiative
transfer in the atmosphere, and closely coupled issues of aerosol
and cloud physics, primarily as they affect our
climate.
Most of my recent work has been radiometric field
instrumentation, observation, analysis, and the development of
remote sensing techniques and algorithms. I
developed a series of photometric/radiometric instruments which
are widely used by other scientists. I have also worked on CCN
instrumentation, and a variety of
optical aerosol measurement techniques.
At present I am the principal investigator
for the United States Reference Ultraviolet Radiometry Network
(operated as part of the USDA UV/Biosphere Program),
and with my colleague Dr. J. Michalsky, a principal investigator
in the USDOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurements Program (ARM).
I am a member of the
Cloudsat (NASA) science team contributing to instrument design,
retrieval algorithms and surface validation efforts for the O2
A-band spectrometer (PABSI).
