Summer 2001 Intensive Field Study

The PMTACS-NY Summer 2001 Intensive Field Study will operate from a host site on the campus of Queens College. Urban sites in the New York City metropolitan area and regional measurement sites in New York State compliment this "Supersite Central" site. The Summer 2001 field study, which begins on June 30 and ends on August 3, deploys several research grade measurement technologies as well as several new commercially available emerging technologies for routine continuous PM mass and chemical species monitoring.

These measurements will provide detailed real-time chemical and physical characterization of the PM2.5/co-pollutant complex that will help to 1) elucidate the operative gas-to-particle transformation processes occurring in urban centers; 2) enhance the chemical source signature database in support of source attribution studies; and 3) intercompare emerging technologies and evaluate their performance relative to EPA mandated PM federal reference methods currently operational as part of the New York State and national PM2.5 monitoring network.
